Church Organizational Structure and Development

INTRODUCTION

The church is clearly more than just a building. Within it are people who occupy specific positions and are part of a living and dynamic organizational structure, as part of the body of Christ. The Bible explains the principles regarding the organizational structure of worship based on the Old Testament law and the New Testament church. This includes matters of leadership, from the main leader, other leaders, and members, as well as their relationships with other churches. As an organization, the church’s organizational structure is crucial because it is the heart of its operations. Equally important is who should hold the positions within the organization. Furthermore, the policy for church development was also explained by the Lord Jesus in His Great Commission: 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20). This, among other things, relates to the meaning of “disciple” and “teaching them to obey.” This is what this book explores: what truly needs to be understood and implemented within a church organizational structure and how church development policies are based on what is recorded in the Bible. In conclusion, the author hopes this concise book can provide insight and be a blessing to us as a church and part of the body of Christ.
